After nearly 3 weeks, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is nearing its conclusion. The final game of this short but intense cricket tournament will be the India vs New Zealand fixture. Both heavyweights will lock horns once again on Sunday, to determine who the champions will be. Both teams belong to the Group A and have already faced other in the group stages.
India’s road to the finals
The Indian campaign began with the game against Bangladesh that India won by 6 wickets. Following which, the much anticipated game against their arch rivals Pakistan was next. India established total control in that game as well, winning it by 6 wickets. The chasemaster, Virat Kohli had a big role in hunting down the total with a crucial century.
Next, it was the game against the Blackcaps. India came out on top defeating New Zealand by 44 runs. After posting a total of just 249 runs, the Indians did superbly to bowl out the Kiwi batters for 205. So far, the Indian team has dominated their games, never looking too uncomfortable against any opponent. Now, the crucial finals will add pressure and test their resolve to remain composed. If the Indians can maintain composure and continue what they have been doing, they will be strong favorites.
New Zealand’s road to the finals
New Zealand on the other have been the second-best side in this tournament. Their only loss been to India. They out-batted South Africa in the semifinals with a mammoth score of 362. Bangladesh and Pakistan proved to be comfortable victories for the Blackcaps. They have the experience and skill to severely trouble the Indian side. Having said that, they need to bolster their plan to face the Indian spinners. The Kiwis capitulated to the Indian spin attack in their previous clash, with Varun Chakravarthy picking up 5 wickets for India.
All in all, it will be a treat for the cricket fans. Expect drama, emotion, skill and magic, all on the line, in the battle for the trophy. Will New Zealand pick their second Champions Trophy up?
