Final Result, RCB won by 11 runs.
Second innings death overs, RR final score: 194-9
RCB bowling unit delivers under pressure to snatch the win
- This was a nail-biting finish to say the least. The RCB bowling set themselves up very well before one bad over that spoiled the hardwork done.
- However, Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal were mindbogglingly good under pressure to deliver the win for Bengaluru.
- Bhuvi didn’t have the best day in the office. He went for 22 runs in the 18th over. That brought down the target to 17 needed from 12 balls. But, thanks to Dayal and Hazlewood, RCB stole the match back from RR.
Jitesh Sharma’s silent impact
- A special shoutout to Jitesh Sharma. He had two important contributions in the death overs. First was the DRS review for Dhruv Jurel’s wicket. The ball had faintly clipped the back of the bat that even the bowler hadn’t clearly noticed.
- Dhruv Jurel was on 47 off 32. The RR keeper was on his way to finish the chase and that’s what made this wicket so crucial for RCB.
- Second, the runout of Hasaranga. Tim David’s throw was a wide one, but Jitesh did superbly to collect the ball and quickly hit the wickets. Incredible work from the keeper.
Second innings, after 15 overs – RR: 148-4
- The RCB bowlers perhaps missed a trick by not using enough slow balls.
- Rajasthan got away plenty of edges to boundaries due to the pace from the pitch.
- Krunal Pandya delivered crucial breakthroughs once again and has given RCB a fighting chance. Big impact from KP.
Second innings, after powerplay – RR: 72-2
- The Rajasthan batters made the pitch look like a completely different surface.
- Smashing the ball from the get-go. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and the 14 year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi took no prisoners. They mercilessly charged after the RCB bowling.
- Despite picking a wicket, RR have been the clear winners of this powerplay.
Target for RR – 206
Death overs, RCB final Score: 205-1
- Sandeep Sharma and Jofra Archer were incredible in the death overs. The yorkers were there with very few loose balls.
- Big swinging Tim David and Jitesh Sharma were under pressure due to the brilliance of the bowlers. Having said that, this duo still managed to get 49 off the last 24 balls.
- The above feat can be attributed to good running between the wickets and finding the occasional boundary. A valiant effort against a strong death bowling attack.
Middle Overs, RCB score after 15 overs: 156-1
- The pair of Padikkal and Kohli did brilliantly and built a crucial partnership.
- Padikkal’s shot placement was impeccable. The southpaw consistently found gaps and played the field intelligently.
- Overall, RCB tided over the tricky phase and got away enough boundaries to set up for a good death overs phase.
First innings, after powerplay – RCB: 59-0
- The Chinnaswamy pitches have not been kind to the Bengaluru batters this season. major part of that has been the two pace nature along with good bounce on offer. Today it seems no different.
- The openers in Salt and Kohli have done well to take a more pragmatic approach in assessing the pitch instead of hitting every ball.
- The batting strategy worked as the pitch was steaming with more bounce than usual. Some luck helped the batters as edges ran away to the boundary and helped RCB get a good powerplay score without losing any wickets.
