Donning the red & gold jersey for RCB and pairing up with Virat Kohli has been a great combination so far for Phil Salt. The wicketkeeper-batter’s destructive style of play has aided RCB’s big scores in the powerplay against KKR and CSK.
He blasted 56 off 31 balls in RCB’s opening game against KKR. The chasing Challengers scored 80 in the powerplay. Salt’s 16-ball 32-run knock against CSK was another vital part of the RCB batting performance. It laid the foundation for the massive 196 run total put up by the visitors. Virat Kohli playing an anchor role to prevent any batting collapse and Salt’s aggressive style of play has turned into a perfect opening pair.
Phil Salt ‘s reaction after the two wins
Happy with the way things have started off, Salt said “To start any competition with two wins, that is where you want to be. But to go and beat the Champions at home, that’s some achievement in itself and then to come here and beat these guys(CSK) who are very very good at home, I think we couldn’t be more pleased at the moment.”
Beating arch-rivals CSK in their home ground after 17 years was a sweet sweet moment for the fans. Reflecting on that feat the British batter said “The rivalry’s been talked up in the last few days. The fans give us so much and to give them a win here, hopefully it makes them very happy.” And happy we are, it was a climatic moment for RCB fans to finally overcome CSK after a long drought in the Chepauk. Cheers and good luck to the opener to giving RCB more wins, and the fans, plenty of happiness.
